That means the mount, metal and gemstone are all decided by you to perfectly reflect the love you share.

How it works

Taking your vision of the perfect ring from your mind into a real world beautiful ring seems like a daunting task, but we make it as simple as possible.

Step One

Set a date (no, not THAT one)

It all begins by sharing your ideas. So choose a time to chat to us about what you want in your ring and we'll talk about making it a reality.

You can visit us in our York showroom or over a video call, entirely up to you.

Step Two

Choose your centre stone

We have one of the best selections of gemstones in the UK. We do both mined and lab grown diamonds as well as coloured gems like rubies, sapphires and emeralds.

We'll give you all the options and information you need to pick the one you love most.

Step Three

Review and finalise your perfect design

We'll share sketches and a 3D CAD design of your ring using your chosen centre stone. You'll have the chance to tweak and make changes to the design.

Once you are completely happy, it is over to our master craftsmen to bring your ring to life.

Step Four

We craft your ring

Our UK based goldsmiths will craft your ring, ensuring the utmost attention to detail is paid.

The finished ring will then go through hallmarking, a final polish before being delivered to you ready for you to task the big question!

FAQs

  • How long will the process take?

  • The bespoke process is very individual so we estimate the length of the process on an individual basis. Some proceed very quickly from the first idea to the finished item, others can take longer if we spend more time at the design process, either hand design or CAD.

    Once the final design is agreed we generally deliver the finished item in three weeks. However this may increase to six weeks depending on the complexity of the design. We will always let you know the timescale we anticipate before going to manufacture.

    If you have a special date in mind please let us know this at the beginning of the process as we can then work with you to meet your expectations.

  • What do I need to start the process?

  • All you need is an idea of what you are hoping to achieve. We will work with you to gain a full understanding of how you would like the finished item to look and then offer suggestions from our portfolio of designs, or sketch your idea so you can see how your dream item will look.

  • Is the process expensive?

  • At Nightingale we don’t charge for the consultations or for the hand design work and, as we work on lower overheads than high street jewellers, your unique item is often better value than buying a similar specification of finished product from the high street jeweller.

  • When do I have to pay?

  • For bespoke work, once the design has been agreed we will quote you the finished price. When the work is proceeded we ask for a 50% deposit with the balance being paid just prior to delivery. If collecting from our showroom you can settle the final payment in person.

  • Is my deposit refundable if I change my mind?

  • Bespoke rings or jewellery cannot be returned. Once you commit to going ahead with your commission your 50% deposit is non-refundable as we buy the materials specially for each commission and they cannot be used for anything else.

  • What if I don’t like the finished product?

  • We spend time discussing with you what is important prior to going into manufacturing mode as it is important to us that we deliver your dream item.

    However we understand sometimes it may not go according to plan.

    We will work with you to make any minor amendments to ensure you are happy. Often these are at no extra charge to you as long as there are no additions to the original design. If necessary we will remount into a mount of a similar specification at no extra charge to you.

    We will discuss any additions with you prior to any work commencing. Additions would be adding more stones or addition of substantial extra metal which may incur an extra cost.

  • I want this to be a surprise and I don’t know the finger size.

  • In this event we would suggest a finger size for you, normally the average M or N, and ask you to return the ring to us for sizing after the occasion of gifting. We will resize at no charge to you within the first three months of purchase.

  • I have some jewellery and I want it remounted or redesigned. Can this be done?

  • This is something that we can help with. We can look at your jewellery and make some suggestions as to whether the stones can be reset into a new design. We will always ask you to bring the jewellery with you to the consultation to assist us. We may need to keep this temporarily but we will always give you a receipt for it.
